Inspired by a spam poetry website, I created a poem using only subject lines from the SPAM in my yahoo and aol accounts.

I love spring

Bentley hiding in the grass Bentley hiding in the grass | Olympus Stylus 300 I hesitate to say that spring has arrived lest I offend the sun gods, but the warm days and sunshine sure feel good. The cats are going nuts to say the least, demanding to be let outside at the first rays of sunshine every morning. Over the weekend they pounced around the yard and crashed through the overgrown grass like little kittens while we pulled weeds and did other garden chores.

Monorail Recall

Friday, March 26, 2004
seattle monorail.bmp Jeesh! Just when you thought the monorail project was moving forward, an anti-monorail group wants to put a stop to it. Charging that voters aren't getting what they were promised, the grass-roots group Monorail Recall is going to try to get 54 thousand signatures to put monorail on the ballot for the fourth time. They argue that a shortage in the monorail's car-tab tax revenue, which has totaled a third less money than was planned, is grounds for repeal. State law allows voters to dissolve the monorail in the event of "significant financial problems." Seattle Monorail Project officials say the tax shortage is manageable. They say they are "closing the gap" through innovative financing plans and potential cost-saving ideas, such as converting portions of the 14-mile line from dual tracks to a single track. I find Monorail Recall's efforts a little hard to believe, since the monorail has already been approved by voters three separate times. Seattle absolutely needs a user-friendly mass transportation solution. Rather than kill the project, I really think we should challenge the Seattle Monorail Project to come up with appropriate funding to make this work. I won't sign the petition. Will you? Warning sign at Bowness Ferry

Mind the Gap | Cannon D10, 28-105mm Driving onto the ferry in Bowness is pretty easy. You travel down a gently sloping concrete ramp onto the ferry, which slides completely flush with the ramp. Just in case you happened to find an abrupt edge to drive off of though, the ferry workers were kind enough to warn you off with this sign.

Harmonious New Hobby

Wednesday, March 24, 2004
I've been wanting to learn to play the harmonica for a long time - well maybe only three months or so. Last night, when I was picking up a new saddle at REI, I saw a harmonica and how to play the harmonica book combo for $15, and I got sucked in. (What's a preeminent outdoor store doing selling harmonicas by the way?!) So far it's going really well. On the way home in the car, I figured out how to play "When the Saints go Marching In." (It's not exactly Dylan, but it's a start, right?!) Then at home, I played along with the book and CD, learning a blues riff, train and rock riff. The funniest part of this whole experience is the reaction of the cats. Bentley actually abandoned his dish of tuna (unheard of!) and bolted from the kitchen when I started playing. He didn't return unless I stopped. Vespa on the other hand was smitten. She circled around chirping away. When I stopped looking at her, she actually put her paws up on my leg and chirped some more.
