Christmas Eve Shenanigans

Whether it’s apple cider or the real stuff, you can always count on Nick to finish the job. Merry Christmas!
We made it!

A midnight editing session
Today is finally the last day of fall semester, and we made it. I say “we” because I would probably be lying in the corner of the law library, crumpled with defeat, if it weren’t for Nick. Last night, he was with me to the end, helping me edit my paper on issue-framing at midnight. Midnight! (He even tried to make me feel good, by claiming it was the funnest work he’s had all year.)
I am so lucky to have such a supportive and generous man for a partner.
Craven Farms

Last weekend Nick and I spent two days with our energetic nephew Ronan and his baby sister Reece, while their parents stole away for a weekend in Vancouver. It was too beautiful to stay home, so we jetted over to Craven Farms in Snohomish on Saturday. It was the first day the farm was open for their Harvest Festival, and we were lucky to have the place mostly to ourselves. That meant that Ronan could run as fast as he wanted and we still wouldn’t lose him!

Tromping through the corn maze

This is what happens when you give him a chocolate snack without bringing a napkin or paper towel with you into the corn maze

The goats and turkeys in the petting zoo were the highlight of the day
All gone!

I wanted to give a big THANK YOU! to everyone who helped with Plum Harvest ‘09. We picked more than 70 pounds again, which is quite a bit of fruit!
So...thank you Anne and Ronan (pictured) for being the first to help pick and eat. Thank you Kieth and Cathy for loaning us your ladder again. Thank you mom, Brian, and dad, for helping us with the lion’s share of the harvesting. Thank you mom for loaning me your canning equipment. Thank you Cathy for the dehydrator, which faithfully continues to dry the plums and plum leather. Thank you to all of my friends who graciously agreed to eat a bag of plums. And last, but not least, thank you Nick for being such an awesome spouse and taking up the slack around the house while I devoted days to canning and preserving.
Somebody’s three!
Nick and Ronan spent some quality time playing yesterday afternoon at Ronan’s “adult” birthday party. It was his second party in one day (the earlier one was for the kids). That’s a lot of partying for a three year old, but he managed to hold up in fine 3-year-old style.
