Congratulations to Ken and Lessli who welcomed their daughter into the world this morning. They got a cute one!

Pregnant snow lady

Nick was scheduled to race bikes at some gosh awful early time on Saturday morning in Bellingham, so we thought a pilgrimage to the Putneys’ house on Friday night was in order. It was snowing when we got there; it was still snowing when we got up in the morning.

Ever the optimist, Nick drove out to the race course at 8 a.m. while Lessli, Ken and I digested our waffles, tea and coffee. A few minutes later, Nick arrived back home thoroughly disgusted with the idea of riding bikes. I had already planned on dragging Ken and Riley (dog) for a run that morning, so Nick borrowed a pair of Lessli’s running shoes and we were off. A half an hour of slush and huge snowflakes melting on eyelashes was enough.

Of course, the snow was perfect for building snowmen, so when we got home we set about our task. Within 15 minutes our gloves were soaked, but we had created possibly the first ever pregnant snow lady in honor of Lessli’s pending delivery. (Note the “outy” belly button.)

My good friend Lessli plays (or rather played) hockey for many years on a few local women’s hockey teams. The pictures I took of the game were “lost” in cyber land until recently. (I never even got to see them!) When they turned up yesterday I was not surprised by the large number of blurry butt-shots. Man those girls are fast. One or two of them turned out, though.

We’re all waiting in anticipation of their baby next month. Whether it plays hockey is not in question. We just want to know whether it will be on a girls team or a boys team in a few years…

There are no words for Nick’s suffering

But this video captures the pitiful mess that’s slumped over the kitchen table amidst empty NyQuil bottles and piles of Puffs Plus tissues at the moment:

Judy took this darling picture of Anne, Ronan, and me over Christmas at the cabin. Looking at it you’d almost think Anne and I were related by blood, not just marriage.

What you don’t see in this picture is Ronan’s genius with electronics. After watching me push the buttons for a few minutes, he took over and started making his own video...Kids these days!
