Earning their keep

Bentley sprinting after the rat
Every now and then a rat manages to find its way through the cat door and take up residence in our washing machine. Nick noticed yesterday morning that we had another squatter. It wasn’t something we had time to take care of right away, so we left for school/work thinking we’d extract it when we got home that night.
Predictably, we forgot about it until about midnight when the sound of thumping in the living room woke Nick up.
“S***! Bentley has the rat cornered under the stereo speakers!”
A box and a broom and about 10 minutes were all it took to capture the thing. We didn’t have much energy to deal with it right then, so we cat-proofed our trap and went to sleep.

Fast forward to this morning. Not wanting to cheat Bentley of his prize (and thinking of no other interesting way to destroy the rat), we took them both outside and watched the chase unfold…
I must keees you!
I often wonder how our cats would respond to the intrusion of a dog in our life. I never wondered, until today that is, how they might like to have a turtle friend. Do you think they’d fight over the crickets?

Bentley’s nemisis

I suspect he spends more time staring at her rather than squabbling over territory. The occasional scratch on his shoulder suggests he’s not backing down either.
