Harmonious New Hobby

Wednesday, March 24, 2004
I've been wanting to learn to play the harmonica for a long time - well maybe only three months or so. Last night, when I was picking up a new saddle at REI, I saw a harmonica and how to play the harmonica book combo for $15, and I got sucked in. (What's a preeminent outdoor store doing selling harmonicas by the way?!) So far it's going really well. On the way home in the car, I figured out how to play "When the Saints go Marching In." (It's not exactly Dylan, but it's a start, right?!) Then at home, I played along with the book and CD, learning a blues riff, train and rock riff. The funniest part of this whole experience is the reaction of the cats. Bentley actually abandoned his dish of tuna (unheard of!) and bolted from the kitchen when I started playing. He didn't return unless I stopped. Vespa on the other hand was smitten. She circled around chirping away. When I stopped looking at her, she actually put her paws up on my leg and chirped some more.
