Starcrossed Cyclocross
Despite promises of sun in the afternoon yesterday, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it rained almost all day. (This is September in the Northwest after all.) There’s no better combination, however, than rain, soggy grass, and mud for excellent spectating at a cyclocross race, so I gladly ponied up $5 to watch the races and enjoy the festivities.
I got there just in time to see the Cat 3 men battle for glory. Nick held his own, finishing well up in the pack, while his teammate, Randy, rode hard for a solid 7th place finish.

Next up were the elite women, followed by the elite men. By now the course had completely disintegrated, so Nick and I grabbed some beers and went to find the best position on the course to watch the carnage. We were not disappointed: The slippery conditions sent nearly every rider to the grass, mud, pavement or for some, all three. I don’t have any pictures of the elite races because of the pouring down rain. I guess you’ll just have to join us next year and see for yourself what all the excitement is about.
