Third annual “earn your turkey” hike

The result of sub-freezing temps
Yesterday’s adventure really should be the fourth annual earn your turkey hike, but the event was canceled last year due to inclement weather. Mother Nature made up for it this year by gracing us with sunny skies for the first time.
This year’s destination was the Bullitt homestead on Squak Mountain. (Details about this hike and some of the other hikes I did in preparation for today will be forthcoming.) It was a record setting year in many ways - with thirteen people, three dogs and our first hitchhiking junior turkey.

Too little to walk, this “junior turkey” rode on Mike’s back
Junior made it about half way before getting fussy, so only 10 of us made it to the “top” where we dined on Joanne’s Stroopwaffles and gave the pooches their reward.

Thor & Odin wait for their treats
Here’s the gang, dutifully posed in front of the remaining fireplace. I’d like to call out Doug, Mark, Karen, Dave and Nick who are official turkey veterans, having been to every single turkey hike in the history of the event.
