World Nutella Day

Who can remember the first time they were allowed to eat chocolate for breakfast?

While it might not be overwhelmingly popular in the U.S., Nutella is present in the memories of most children (and grown-up children) in the rest of the world. From oozing hot crepes to free-spooning sessions on the couch, it is more than just a “chocolaty hazelnut spread,” it is a way of life.

In honor of World Nutella Day (today), I thought I’d offer up a recipe for something you might not have tried before - Nutella Hot Chocolate. It’s perfect for those winter days fraught with blustery wind and snow flurries. Top it with a ginormous marshmallow and sip slowly while curled up under a soft blanket. Ahhh…

Nutella Hot Chocolate
Serves one, generously

* 1 cup milk
* 3 tb Nutella or other chocolate-hazelnut spread
* 1 cinnamon stick
* 1 tsp high-quality cocoa powder
* 1 or more marshmallows
* pinch of espresso powder (optional)

In a heavy-bottomed sauce pan over a low flame, whisk together the milk, Nutella, cocoa powder, and espresso (if using). Add cinnamon stick. Simmer for about 5 minutes, to allow flavors to meld.

Comments:

Sounds divine!  I will add it to my shopping list at once!

However, I have been banned from kissing Mike after consuming Nutella.  That and hummus.  Go figure.
