First tooth

Ronan and Mike came over for dinner last night, leaving Anne in peace to work on report cards. At seven months old, the lil’ hucker is sporting his first tooth. Lots of new pictures (including a few from Anne) are in the photo gallery for your viewing pleasure.

Curiosity got the cat

image

Boy was I wrong when I said Bentley & Vespa aren’t easily amused. When Vespa saw the kitten video yesterday, she went nuts trying to figure out how to play with the moving picture. She even went so far as to crawl over and behind the monitor to see if that’s where the kitten was. This has seriously shaken her world view.

Kitten Friday

At first I was going to write a story about the awesome experience I had at R&E Cycles this afternoon, about how Smiley and Scott are the friendliest bike shop employees on the planet.

Then I found this kitten video on Google Video, and it reminded me how fun kitten TV can be and how it’s been way too long since we had a batch of kittens around. (This is the point where I warn my dad NOT to watch the video, because his toes will curl so tightly in anxiety over the laptop they’ll cramp.)

Bentley and Vespa just aren’t this easily amused anymore.

Snohomish-Monroe Loop via High Bridge Rd

image

The weather looks questionable this weekend, but training for our Italy trip must continue. The plan is to start at Mark Ryan winery Wilmot Park in Woodinville, ride to Snohomish, then Monroe and back to Woodinville. If we’re not too cold and miserable, we’ll do a little wine tasting at Mark Ryan before heading home. They’re serving sliders and pizza, which will go down really well after 42 miles in the saddle.

Click here for the turn-by-turn description of the ride.

If one day of the year screams PARTY!, that day has to be today. March 14 (or 3/14) is World Pi Day! It’s the date to celebrate the symbol that represents 3.1415 and on and on to infinity. (The day also happens to be Albert Einstein’s birthday. A round of “Happy birthday Dear Albert” anyone?)

I think I’ll bring some pie to work today and make time to catch the annual ritual drop of the giant pie at 1:59 p.m. If you’d like to cyber-celebrate with me, may I suggest sending a Pi Day e-card and belting out at least one round of “Oh, number Pi” (to the tune of “Oh, Tannenbaum”):

Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
Your digits are unending,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
No pattern are you sending.
You’re three point one four one five nine,
And even more if we had time,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
For circle lengths unbending.

Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
You are a number very sweet,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
Your uses are so very neat.
There’s 2 Pi r and Pi r squared,
A half a circle and you’re there,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
We know that Pi’s a tasty treat.
