New blog - Salad Days

imageI’ve always eaten pretty healthfully (or so I thought). Then I picked up Dr. Fuhrman’s book Eat to Live. A good subtitle for this book would be “unlearn everything you ever knew about nutrition and eat what is really right.”

I am so passionate about the nutritional philosophy described by Dr. Furhman, that I started another blog. (It was also a partial response to my daily salad posts on Facebook and people begging me for salad recipes.) If you are interested, the new blog is at http://saladdays.nwoutdoorgrrl.com

Matt Outtakes

Hot dang...Matt Harding’s goofball dancing still has me smiling like a pumpkin - even if it is just outtakes. If you haven’t taken a minute to do a little dance today, here’s your chance. Lock the door on your office and dance along…

Just in case you were one of the 10 people who missed the Matt Harding sensation last summer, Matt Harding is a video game designer. That’s cool enough, but in February of 2003, he quit his job in Brisbane, Australia and used the money he’d saved to wander around Asia until it ran out. Somewhere along in there, he started videoing this dance that could charitably be called goofy. He put it up on YouTube and became quasi-famous for this dance.

Stride gum offered to sponsor another round-the-world trip to make a second video:

In 2008, Stride gum was gracious enough to sponsor Matt’s third trip, this time to dance with the people who’d written him since his second trip. This video is probably the best of all the ones he’s produced:

And if you just absolutely can’t get enough of this dancing sensation, you can pre-order Matt’s upcoming book from Amazon, which will be released on June 2nd.

Happy dancing to you!

Happy cobble riding

There is no Easter bunny for the riders participating in today’s 107th Paris-Roubaix. This is the Arenberg section, just one part of the 33 miles of cobblestones that the peloton endures on the 160-mile race. The rough cobbles date back as many as 200 years and are carefully maintained by fans, promoters and local governments in northern France.

The race is only partially over, as I type this. I’ve got my fingers crossed for Hincapie. The man has come so close so many times. It’s about time for a win!

Fire..heh-heh…she said fire…

image

After weeding the front corner of our yard, transplanting a 6’ tall peiris, transplanting huge clumps of autumn sedum, spreading bark, sweeping the patio, and raking the yard, I still wasn’t done...Oh no...My body was aching, my throat was dry, but there was one essential task remaining. Building a fire pit!

I’m not sure how much these retaining wall stones weigh, but Scooby was ridin’ pretty low yesterday afternoon. After the pit and the walls were constructed, I filled in with a little dirt and compost. The strawberries should be very happy here!

The next task is roto-tilling the back yard and bringing in some top soil to make it ready for planting.

His Royal Bentley-ness

image

Over the last 6+ years it’s become very clear whose house this is. I’ll give you a hint - it’s not mine and it’s not Nick’s. Bentley subtly reminds us of this when he takes over our bed...and my pillow…
