Olympics at Sunset

$2000 later…

I think we’ve finally solved Vespa’s health problems. It all started about a month ago, when we came home to find her vomiting bloody bile. Turns out she was constipated and couldn’t process anymore food. An enema fixed her right up, except that she had this nagging gag reflex which morphed into violent hacking and sneezing episodes. Two courses of antibiotics later and she still wasn’t better.

We finally got her in for her FOURTH appointment today - this time with a internal medicine specialist. They put her under anesthesia (but not without a bad reaction to morphine and some claw-bearing antics first) and used a scope to examine the insides of her sinuses and throat. Turns out she had a 5” piece of grass lodged in her sinuses (pictured). FIVE INCHES! It must have been dangling down just enough to tickle her gag reflex or something. Blech!

She’s got two more weeks of antibiotics and a couple days of kitty anti-inflammatories. Fingers crossed that she’s back to tip top shape without another visit to the vet. This episode pretty much killed the cat care budget for a while.

Poor kitten! Though when I first read this, I read five inch piece of GLASS and I was shocked and confused!!!

Anyway, it reminded me of this from dooce. Not sure if you’re a reader: http://www.dooce.com/2008/07/23/why-our-next-dog-will-be-sea-monkey

After reading that story, all I can say is thank goodness cats fit in carriers and thank goodness ours like their carriers! (If we leave them out, they like to sleep in them.)

I’m glad to hear the problem is fixed and all will be well. For now. My cat leaned off the patio to munch some grass yesterday and puked this morning.
